AI Image Generators Create Nonconsensual Nudes of Teens Despite App Store Controls

A new report reveals that teenagers in the U.S. can access apps capable of generating nonconsensual nude imagery, even with parental controls in place on major app stores. Researchers from the Tech Transparency Project used test accounts posing as 13-year-olds to download 135 applications that feature AI tools for creating explicit content.

One alarming case highlighted involved a student using an AI image-editing app called Movely to create sexually explicit videos from images of his classmates. This incident underscores the growing concern over the misuse of AI technology to generate harmful and nonconsensual content, particularly targeting minors. The findings raise serious questions about the effectiveness of current safeguards implemented by platforms like Apple and Google in protecting young users from such sophisticated digital exploitation.
