NSW Halts Wetland Flows, Forcing Turtle Rescue

Environmental water flows to a vital wetland in western New South Wales were controversially halted, leading to the drying up of a water hole and the rescue of freshwater turtles. The decision to cut off the water was reportedly made after a complaint from a private landholder.

This action resulted in the deaths of various wildlife and sheep, highlighting the delicate ecological balance of the region. Fortunately, ten broad-shelled turtles and three Murray River turtles, previously rescued from the desiccated Gingham water hole, have now been successfully returned to their habitat.
