Australian Researchers Identify New 'Circadian Depression' Subtype

Australian researchers have identified a new subtype of depression, termed "circadian depression," which is linked to disruptions in the body's internal clock. This subtype is believed to be less responsive to traditional antidepressant treatments.

The study, published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, analyzed clinical and genetic data from over 11,000 Australians with severe and recurrent depression. Findings indicate that circadian depression affects nearly a quarter of these participants, highlighting a significant portion of the population with a potentially distinct form of the disorder.
