Japan's Prime Minister Pledges Support for Film Industry at Tokyo Fest Opening

Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has pledged government support for the nation's film industry during the opening ceremony of the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival. In a video message, Takaichi reiterated the government's ambitious goal to increase overseas sales of Japanese content to ¥20 trillion (approximately $133 billion) by 2033.

The festival commenced with a rain-soaked red carpet, where local stars like Tadanobu Asano and Junichi Okada were in attendance. Despite the weather, the event signaled a strong start for the festival, which received 1,892 film submissions from 112 countries and regions. The opening also saw anticipation building for films such as 'Godzilla Minus Zero,' and representation from Hollywood, with Academy CEO Bill Kramer present.
