Netflix Chiefs Cite U.S. Viewing Slowdown, Need for Better Execution in Content Shakeup

Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters acknowledged a slowdown in U.S. viewing and ad sales as a primary driver behind the recent significant shakeup in the company's content leadership. During a discussion with Wall Street analysts following the third-quarter earnings release, the executives addressed the strategic decisions that led to the ousting of chief content officer Bela Bajaria and the appointment of veteran executive Peter Rice.

Sarandos stated that the company "needs better execution" in the U.S. market and expressed confidence that Rice, with his blend of "art and commerce," will help re-orient Netflix's film and TV operations. Peters characterized the recent layoffs of approximately 1,000 employees as a "hard tradeoff" necessary for long-term growth in a rapidly evolving media landscape, emphasizing the responsibility to "trim or redirect how we're investing."
