Apu Returns to 'The Simpsons' with New Voice Actor After Hiatus

The character of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon will be heard once again on the long-running animated series 'The Simpsons' in an episode airing tonight. Apu's voice actor for nearly three decades, Hank Azaria, stepped down from the role following criticism that the character perpetuated harmful stereotypes of South Asians. This led to Apu being visually present in episodes since 2017 but without dialogue.

The decision to reintroduce Apu with a new voice actor comes after a period of reflection and discussion surrounding representation in media. The upcoming episode, titled "The Revengening," marks a significant moment for the character and the show's approach to addressing past controversies. The specific identity of the new voice actor has not yet been revealed, but their debut is anticipated by fans and critics alike.
