Egyptian Journalist Charged with Terrorism After Newsroom Detained

An Egyptian journalist has been formally charged with joining a terrorist group, following the detention of six staff members from the independent fact-checking platform Matsadaash. The arrests, which rights organizations have decried as a suppression of press freedom, occurred last week.

Authorities stated that the Matsadaash journalists were accused of operating without a license and disseminating false information on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood. While one journalist has been charged, the whereabouts of the other five remain unknown, intensifying concerns for their safety and the future of independent journalism in Egypt.
